Genera and Species of Pangolins

There are three genera of pangolins. They are known as Manis, Phantaginus, and Smutsia.

  • Has a very long prehensile tail
  • The Kadazan people use sunda pangolin scales to make armor for their warriors

  • Has an extremely long prehensile tail, which makes up most of its length
  • Its tail has a bare tip containing a sensory pad that helps the pangolin to seek out and grip branches
  • It is the smallest species of pangolin
  • Its face and underside are covered with black fur
  • It is the only diurnal species of pangolin, meaning it is awake during the day
  • Lives in moist tropial or swamp forests
